Meeting – Ambition Without Apology

June 3, 2026

This week’s meeting focused on ambition, courage, growth, and unapologetic confidence as we gathered around the theme “Ambition Without Apology.” The evening reminded us that ambition does not have to be hidden, softened, or explained away. Instead, it can be embraced as a powerful force that helps us dream bigger, take action, and continue growing as speakers and leaders.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Nadya, invited us to reflect on what it means to pursue our goals without apology. Through their remarks, we explored how societal pressures can sometimes make us feel like we need to stay in our lane, be humble, or make our dreams smaller. We were encouraged to reframe ambition as a natural and meaningful drive to grow, advance our skills, and seek out the goals that matter to us. The invitation was both simple and powerful: dream big, speak boldly, and pursue your growth without apology.

The Word of the Day was:

slay — to crush it with unapologetic confidence

Our first speaker, Jennie, delivered a heartfelt and reflective icebreaker speech titled “Debugging My Voice.” She explored communication, connection, and the courage it takes to speak in a second language. Through stories about playing music with her band, working as a debugging engineer, and navigating daily conversations as a mother, Jenny reminded us that communication is not only about perfect words. It is also about listening, movement, connection, and presence. A key takeaway from her speech was that we do not need to apologize for our accents, our learning process, or the time it takes to find our voice. Her ambition is not simply to survive in a second language, but to connect, influence, and speak with confidence.

Our second speaker, Chandana, presented an uplifting and community-centered speech titled “The Secret Ingredient of Women L.E.A.D.” Through her reflections on her first Toastmasters meeting, she examined what makes Women L.E.A.D. such a special and high-energy club. While the space, hybrid format, and strong organization all contribute to the club’s success, Chandana reminded us that the real secret ingredient is the people. She shared how encouragement, applause, mentorship, and genuine support helped her take her first steps as a speaker and continue growing as a leader. Her reflections challenged us to consider how powerful it is to be part of a community that celebrates progress, not perfection, and roots for each person’s growth.

The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Marianne, brought reflection, energy, and self-awareness to the room. Guided by questions aligned with the theme of ambition, members reflected on gratitude, self-inspiration, self-appreciation, quality decision-making, success, drive, and action. The responses reminded us that ambition is not only about big dreams, but also about the small, brave steps we take to move forward.

Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators, including Derick, Sarah, Linda, Lily, and Dawn, for their thoughtful feedback and support in helping our speakers and meeting grow.

Ambition becomes even stronger when it is paired with courage, community, and action. We do not need to apologize for wanting to grow.

See you at our next meeting!
