This week’s meeting focused on courage, visibility, adventure, and reflection as we gathered around the theme, embracing the pivot. The evening reminded us that pivots can be both big and small, planned and unexpected, and that each one gives us an opportunity to grow, adapt, and discover something new about ourselves.
Our Toastmaster of the Day, Nitin, invited us to reflect on the pivots we have experienced in our own lives. Through their opening remarks, we explored how stepping into something unfamiliar—whether joining a club, taking on a new role, or choosing a new direction—can feel intimidating at first, but can also lead to meaningful growth. The invitation was both simple and powerful: honor the pivots that have shaped us and be open to the ones still ahead.
The Word of the Day was:
astute (adjective) — keenly observant, insightful, and able to understand or judge things quickly and accurately.
We also had the joy of welcoming new members Tiffany, Jennie, Madisen, and Janet through a warm member induction led by Sarah. Each new member shared a little about themselves, reminding us that what makes Women L.E.A.D. special is the people, stories, and connections within our club.
Our first speaker, Robin, delivered a humorous and engaging speech titled “My Love for Traveling.” He explored his passion for solo travel, sharing memorable stories from Mono Lake and Hawaii. From following an unexpected “navigation system” to find a lake, to joking with fellow passengers on a flight, to discovering crystal-clear waters after a challenging hike across volcanic rocks, Robin reminded us that the best memories often come from the moments we never planned.
Our second speaker, Linda, presented an interactive and thought-provoking workshop titled “Now You See Me,” focused on increasing visibility and earning recognition at work. Through personal stories and honest reflection, she examined the tension many of us know well: the belief that working hard and staying quiet should be enough, versus the reality that visibility and voice are often essential for growth. Her reflections challenged us to consider why we want to be seen and how we can show up more fully in our professional lives.
The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Madisen, brought reflection, connection, and spontaneity to the room. Guided by questions aligned with the theme of pivoting, members reflected on moments of change, courage, uncertainty, and growth.
Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators for their thoughtful feedback and support in helping our speakers and meeting grow. Your presence and contributions helped create another meaningful evening of learning and connection.
Every pivot, whether small or life-changing, can open the door to new confidence, new stories, and new possibilities.
See you at our next meeting!
