Meeting – The Women Who Raised Us

May 13, 2026

This week’s meeting focused on gratitude, courage, and inner strength as we gathered around the theme “The Women Who Raised Us.” The evening reminded us to honor the women whose sacrifices, wisdom, and quiet encouragement shaped our voices long before we ever stood at a lectern.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Preetha, invited us to reflect on the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and women who believed in us first. Through her remarks, we explored how their lessons continue to echo in the way we speak, lead, and show up today. The invitation was both simple and powerful: as we take the floor, we do so in honor of the women who helped us find our words.

The Word of the Day was:

fortitude (noun) — mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty with courage

Our first speaker, Maria, delivered an inspiring speech titled “The Power Within Me.” She explored what it means to stop waiting for someone else to rescue us and instead discover the superhero within. Through her story of navigating vision and hearing loss, relying on her sister Jessica, and eventually choosing to face her fears, Maria reminded us that we all carry the power of choice.

Our second speaker, Linda, presented a thought-provoking speech titled “See Something, Say Something.” Through a suspenseful workplace story about uncovering suspicious payments and deciding whether to speak up, Linda examined the tension between truth, risk, and self-protection. Her reflections challenged us to consider what we would do in a difficult ethical situation and reminded us of the importance of documentation.

Our third speaker, Akila, delivered a reflective and inspiring speech titled “The Myth of Starting Too Late.” She shared her journey of discovering an interest in Bharatiya dance and the challenges she faced beginning as an adult. Through the stories and lessons she learned from other women who also started dancing later in life, Akila reminded us that it is never too late to pursue our passions, honor our curiosity, and begin again with courage.

The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Lily, brought reflection, connection, and heartfelt storytelling to the room. Guided by questions aligned with the theme, members reflected on the women who shaped them and the lessons they continue to carry forward.

Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators for your thoughtful feedback and support in helping our speakers and meetings grow.

As we move forward, we carry with us a powerful reminder: the women who raised us gave us more than care and guidance — they gave us the fortitude to use our voices with courage.

See you at our next meeting!
