Meeting – Breaking the Mold

May 20, 2026

This week’s meeting focused on courage, confidence, and challenging expectations as we gathered around the theme “Breaking the Mold.” The evening reminded us that people who create change are often those who refuse to follow the safest path, question existing standards, and find the courage to create new ones.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Ramya, invited us to reflect on what it means to break the mold in our own lives. We explored how growth often begins when we question expectations, redefine success on our own terms, and move forward on our own timeline.

The Word of the Day was:

pioneer (verb) — to be the first to explore or introduce something.

Our first speaker, Asha, delivered an informative and technical presentation in preparation for an upcoming customer success session. She introduced a data center networking and security solution, highlighting how AI, security risks, and increasingly complex infrastructure require new approaches to protecting systems.

Our second speaker, Preetha, delivered a humorous and relatable speech about imposter syndrome. Through her own experiences with academic and professional achievement, she explored the persistent inner voice that can make even highly qualified people feel like frauds. Her reflections challenged us to see nervousness not as failure, but as care; to see self-critique not as proof we are unqualified, but as part of growth; and to act with confidence even before we fully feel it.

Our third speaker, Monica, presented an engaging speech on communication styles and culture. Through a funny and relatable workplace example, she examined how communication is shaped not only by personality or behavior, but also by culture, context, time, gender, age, and lived experience. Her reflections reminded us that communication is never just about words; it is also about the background, expectations, and assumptions each person brings into the conversation.

The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Sarah, brought reflection and connection to the room. Guided by questions aligned with the meeting theme, members had the opportunity to think about how they break the mold, challenge expectations, and communicate from their own experiences.

Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators for their thoughtful feedback and support in helping our speakers and meeting grow.

Breaking the mold does not always require a dramatic leap. Sometimes, it begins with questioning an expectation, naming the voice of self-doubt, or choosing to communicate with greater awareness and courage.

See you at our next meeting!
