This week’s meeting explored the theme “A Completely Unnecessary Debate,” inviting us to embrace the fun, unexpected, and sometimes humorous sides of communication. Through personal stories, humor, and impromptu speaking, we explored how different perspectives and communication styles can make even the simplest topics entertaining.
Our Toastmaster of the Day, Akila, guided us through the evening’s meeting, setting the stage for members to share their experiences, practice their speaking skills, and connect through the art of storytelling.
The Word of the Day was:
Invigorating (adjective) — making someone feel strong, refreshed and full of energy
Our first speaker, Valeria, delivered an icebreaker speech titled “My Life in the Bay.” Through personal stories and reflections, she introduced us to her experiences living in the Bay Area, offering the audience a glimpse into her journey, personality, and perspective.
Our second speaker, Preetha, presented a humorous speech titled “Fine and Thanks a Lot.” Her speech reminded us that the way we express ourselves can transform everyday interactions into opportunities for laughter, connection, and reflection.
The Themed Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Audrey, brought spontaneity and lively discussion to the room. Members were assigned a pro or con position on a debate topic and challenged to explain their reasoning and defend their side. The activity encouraged everyone to think on their feet, articulate their opinions, and consider different perspectives—even when arguing for a position they might not necessarily agree with.
Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators for their thoughtful feedback and support.
This week’s meeting reminded us that communication doesn’t always have to be serious or straightforward. Sometimes, the most unnecessary debates and unexpected perspectives give us the chance to practice thinking creatively, express ourselves with confidence, and connect through laughter.
See you at our next meeting!
