This week’s meeting focused on inclusion, diversity, and the power of expression as we gathered around the theme “The Power of Every Voice” in recognition of Disability Pride Month. The evening reminded us that every voice adds value, perspective, and meaning to our community, and that listening deeply allows us to build a stronger environment.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Akila, invited us to reflect on how honoring different experiences and ways of communicating helps us learn from one another. Through her remarks, we explored how true inclusion requires actively creating space for everyone and were encouraged to practice deep listening in our daily interactions. It set a wonderful tone for an evening dedicated to mutual growth and respect.

The Word of the Day was: 

Amplify (verb) — to increase the strength, impact, or importance of a voice, message, or idea

Our first speaker, Tiffany, delivered a reflective and inspiring speech titled “Finding My Stride, Finding Myself”. She explored her journey of self-discovery through running, sharing how it helped her find her identity beyond societal expectations. A key takeaway from her speech was the invitation to break free from external pressures, reminding us to embrace our own unique paths and mindsets.

Our second speaker, Mahak, presented a thought-provoking speech titled “An Experienced Beginner”. Through framing the inherent challenges of starting new chapters, she examined the tensions of navigating unfamiliar learning curves. Her reflections challenged us to consider how embracing discomfort can ultimately build genuine confidence, leaving many of us thinking long after the speech ended.

Our third speaker, Kirti, delivered a highly practical speech titled “The Art of Prep”. She explored the essential blueprint of effective speech preparation, sharing the impact of creating a well-practiced flow. A key takeaway from her speech was the reminder of the importance of familiar surroundings alongside both physical and mental readiness, reminding us to build a grounded routine before stepping up to speak.

The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Derick, brought laughter, connection, and deep reflection to the room. Guided by questions aligned with the meeting theme, members reflected on how to include people with different communication styles, adapting through body language and technology.
