This week’s meeting focused on empowerment, confidence, and self-leadership as we gathered around the theme “Standing in our Power.” The evening reminded us that standing in power means valuing our ideas, using our voice, taking space with confidence, and creating space for others to be included and heard.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Lily, invited us to reflect on the legacy of Women’s Equality Day and Rosie the Riveter as a symbol of strength and gender equality. Through her remarks, we explored how leadership simplified down is influence, making all of us leaders in our respective spheres, and were encouraged to step into our confidence and embrace our full potential. Her message set an inspiring, high-energy tone for the entire meeting.

The Word of the Day was:

Empower (verb) — to give someone the authority, confidence, or means to do something.

Our first speaker, Nadya, delivered a thought-provoking speech titled “Leap to Leadership.” She explored key frameworks from a six-month leadership program, sharing insights on self-leadership, situational leadership, and how personal thinking styles shift under pressure. A key takeaway from her speech was that leadership is fundamentally about influence and self-awareness, reminding us to continuously seek out development opportunities to learn more about ourselves and better communicate with others.

Our second speaker, Swagata, presented a deeply personal and reflective speech titled “Lost & Found.” Through her journey of moving from India to California and embracing new, daring experiences like skiing and pole fitness, she examined the contrast between personal growth and losing her confidence to speak up at work. Her reflections challenged us to consider the importance of reclaiming our authentic voice and using it to make an impact, leaving many of us thinking long after the speech ended.

Our third speaker, Karen, delivered an engaging and insightful speech titled “Values and Leadership – How are They Connected?” She examined whether organizations truly “walk the talk” when it comes to their stated corporate values. Her reflections challenged us to consider how real values must be lived and experienced daily, leaving us with a powerful reminder of accountability and authentic leadership.

The Table Topics portion of the meeting brought energy, spontaneous reflection, and active engagement to the room. Guided by questions from Hamsa, aligned with standing in power and practical communication, members and guests reflected on prompt responses and impromptu speaking in a supportive environment.
