This week’s meeting focused on mutual inspiration, open-mindedness, and bridge-building as we gathered around the theme “Learning Across Generations.” The evening reminded us that wisdom flows both ways, and every generation has valuable perspectives to share.
Our Toastmaster of the Day, Marianne, invited us to reflect on the practical and life lessons we absorb from people of all ages. We explored how simple skills—like pumping gas or changing a tire—can be learned from both younger and older generations, encouraging us to view generational differences as opportunities for growth rather than divides.
The Word of the Day was:
Perspective (noun) — a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.
Our first speaker, Nitin, delivered a humorous speech titled “What are you afraid of?”. He explored “oblio-verbo-phobia”—the fear of forgetting words during a speech—sharing a lighthearted dialogue with a doctor called Dr. Joshi. A key takeaway from his speech was that speech anxiety is a universal human trait, reminding us to practice mindfulness, embrace cognitive behavioral techniques, and use Toastmasters as a safe simulation to become comfortable with our mistakes.
The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Mahak, brought dynamic engagement, reflection, and lively discussion to the room. Members reflected on nostalgic childhood items, how older generations might handle a world without smartphones, the strength behind youth impatience, and the timeless value of handwritten letters versus digital messaging.
Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators for their thoughtful feedback and support in helping our speakers and meeting grow!
See you at our next meeting!
