Meeting – Rainy Day Reflections

April 22, 2026

This week’s meeting focused on perspective, resilience, and adapting to change as we gathered around the theme “Rainy Days.” The evening reminded us that even gloomy seasons can offer unexpected clarity. Much like a rainy morning invites stillness and reflection, growth often happens when we slow down enough to notice new perspectives.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Kirti, invited us to reflect on the beauty of rainy mornings and the sense of calm they can bring. Through her remarks, we explored how moments of stillness can shift our outlook and help us appreciate life from a different angle. In honor of Earth Day, she also reminded us to appreciate the world around us and care for it so it can continue giving back to us.

Our first speaker, Lily, delivered a deeply reflective and inspiring speech about navigating an unexpected layoff and finding clarity through uncertainty. In her speech, she shared how receiving difficult news led her to return to Johns Hopkins University for its 150th anniversary celebration, where she found unexpected inspiration through stories of philanthropy, leadership, resilience, and gender equity. Through the stories of Johns Hopkins, Mary Garrett, and Vivien Thomas, she reflected on giving back, finding people who share your vision, and focusing on what you can control. A key takeaway from her speech was that setbacks can sometimes create space for renewal, reminding us to care for ourselves, lean on our communities, and keep moving forward with hope. And as she closed with “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey, it felt like the perfect anthem for her next chapter.

Our second featured segment took a different format as Abhijeet led an engaging workshop on leadership in the age of AI. Through examples ranging from healthcare to workplace productivity, he explored how artificial intelligence can accelerate decision-making while also raising important questions around ethics, bias, creativity, and trust. Members reflected on how AI can support efficiency, but cannot replace human wisdom, compassion, and judgment. His workshop challenged us to consider an increasingly relevant question: as technology becomes more powerful, how do we ensure our humanity grows alongside it?

A special highlight of the evening was welcoming two new members, Asha and Hamsa, to Women L.E.A.D. Toastmasters. Their excitement to grow as communicators and connect with new people was a wonderful reminder of what makes this club so special.

Thank you to Nadya for providing thoughtful feedback to Lily and helping create a supportive environment for growth.

See you at our next meeting!
