Meeting – Fresh Start

March 4, 2026

This week’s meeting focused on renewal, courage, and new beginnings as we gathered around the theme “Fresh Start.” Spring is a season of renewal, where longer days and blooming flowers remind us that change can be beautiful and full of possibility. The evening reminded us that this club is more than a place to practice speeches — it is a space where growth, reflection, and community support one another as we step into new chapters.

Our Toastmaster of the Day, Ramya, invited us to reflect on the spirit of a fresh start. Through her remarks, we explored how releasing what no longer serves us can create space for new energy, hope, and intention. The invitation was both simple and powerful: embrace renewal and allow yourself the possibility of beginning again.

The Word of the Day was:

renewal (noun) — the act or process of renewing. One example shared was how flowers are often used in art as symbols of rebirth and renewal.

Our first speaker, Preetha, delivered a reflective speech about redefining her relationship with food. She shared how she began to see food not as a moral measure of discipline but as a support system for her well being. By adopting the 80/20 principle, she learned to enjoy meals with balance rather than guilt. A key takeaway from her speech was the importance of shifting our mindset toward self compassion and sustainability.

Our second speaker, Lily, presented a thoughtful speech about mentorship and growth. She spoke about her experience being mentored by Alice Chang and how that relationship encouraged her to step outside of her comfort zone. Through taking a public speaking course and identifying gaps in her job skills, Lily demonstrated how mentorship can create opportunities for personal and professional development.

Our third speaker, Chandana S, shared a powerful message about the value of saying yes to new opportunities. She reflected on how joining Toastmasters and volunteering to organize events opened unexpected doors for her growth. Her story reminded us that sometimes the most meaningful transformations begin with a simple yes.

The Table Topics portion of the meeting, led by Akila, brought vulnerability and connection to the room as members shared stories related to fresh starts and personal renewal. Derick reflected on shaving their head and how the experience reshaped their sense of self acceptance. Audrey spoke about transitioning from software engineering into technical support and the perseverance it took to find a role aligned with their strengths. Shriya shared their experience of challenging cultural expectations by voicing their opinions more openly. Robin described choosing Seattle for its weather and job opportunities, while Victoria reflected on continuing their work in nonprofit development and feeling their career path realigning in a positive direction.

Thank you to our functionaries and evaluators for their thoughtful feedback and support in helping our speakers and meeting grow.

As we move forward, we carry with us a powerful reminder: every fresh start begins with the courage to change, and renewal often begins the moment we choose to begin again.

See you at our next meeting!
