This week, our meeting celebrated the theme of “Global Handwashing Day.” Our Toastmaster, Ignacio, set the tone with a lighthearted start, opening with fun riddles that reminded us of the humor hidden in hygiene:
Why do you not kiss a germ? Because they’re clingy.
Why was the mask so calm? Because it had everything covered.
Our leader profile was presented by Akila, who shared an inspiring story about Judge Frank Caprio, known as one of the most empathetic and compassionate judges in America. Akila reflected on his famous words: “I was raised in a privileged household — I had the privilege of being poor.” She highlighted how his humility, kindness, and deep sense of justice continue to inspire people to lead with compassion and humanity.
Next, Sarah entertained us with a humorous and engaging speech from her Engaging Humor pathway. Her speech, filled with relatable moments and vivid storytelling, recounted her adventure of bringing home the ultimate Philadelphia souvenir — a Philly cheesesteak sandwich for her boyfriend. From waiting in long lines to protecting the sandwich through airport security, Sarah’s narrative had the audience laughing and nodding in appreciation of her dedication (and courage!) to deliver love wrapped in foil.
Kirti then led the Table Topics session, keeping the room lively with her creative prompts related to handwashing and hygiene. Questions ranged from “What would your germ mascot be?” to “What’s the messiest thing your pet has ever done?” One memorable takeaway came from Joscel, who reminded everyone that your phone is the dirtiest thing you own — a comment that sparked nods of agreement. Many participants chimed in with similar reflections about the little things we overlook in daily hygiene.
Preetha offered constructive feedback for Sarah’s speech, commending her storytelling, structure, and comic timing, while suggesting small ways to enhance audience connection even further.
Finally, our General Evaluator, Anushree, wrapped up the meeting with warmth and appreciation. She praised the team’s adaptability in smoothly filling last-minute roles — a testament to the supportive and cooperative spirit that defines our club.
See you at our next meeting!
Special thank you to Akila for helping take notes for this meeting!
