To start our meeting, our Sergeant of Arms Eduardo welcomed our many guests — we had almost as many guests as members present! Preetha, our Area Director (as well as our club Treasurer), congratulated us on our club’s President’s Distinguished status.

Toastmaster Jagan introduced the theme, The Power of Curiosity, by asking who are the most curious among us? Children, for sure, and also scientists, journalists… He credited the invention of smallpox vaccine invention to sheer curiosity about the milk maids who were immune to smallpox having been already exposed to cow pox.

In preparation for the upcoming club officer election, our VP of Membership Akila and VP of Public Relations Jian explained their roles. Do you have what it takes to be our next VPM or VPPR?

Jian presented a speech on communication styles; she described how she learned that both warmth and assertiveness are not incompatible, and encouraged us to all practice infusing both into our communication.

Table Topics Master Eduardo invited us to celebrate our curiosity and describe moments in which we learned something new through exploration, travel, cuisine, and curiosity.

General Evaluator and President Ramya led the conclusion of the meeting, and we ended with a surprise song and cake for Jian’s upcoming birthday. 🙂
