Word of the Day: Growth
Preetha gave her speech titled “Not Walking Alone”. She discusses the myths of leadership, emphasizing that it is a learnable set of behaviors and attitudes. She introduces shared leadership, defined as collective, autonomous, and collaborative practices. Using examples from Toastmasters, she illustrates these tenets: collective practices through potlucks, where everyone contributes unique skills; autonomy, demonstrated by a challenging hike where peers supported the speaker; and collaboration, shown through salsa dancing lessons where trust and flexibility are crucial. Preetha concludes that leadership involves walking together, not alone, and that everyone has the potential to lead.
