“Use your imaaaaaagination” – Spongebob
Word of the Day: Ingenuity
We had three speeches at this meeting! What a treat.
Chandana gave her speech titled “Overcoming the Fear of Failure”. She highlighted the challenges in the current job market, particularly in tech, and shared her personal journey of overcoming communication issues and imposter syndrome by joining Toastmasters and Women Lead. She recounted her progression from initial shyness to confident public speaking and networking, which eventually led to securing a job. She encouraged continuous improvement and resilience in the face of job market difficulties.
Jian gave her speech titled “3-Step
Approach to Building a Personal Brand”. She emphasized the importance of personal branding in today’s digital age, suggesting a three-step approach to enhance one’s professional image. Jian also advised practicing self-promotion and adapting to the fast-changing digital landscape where people often Google you before meeting.
Leena gave her speech titled “Battling the Beast”. It was a very emotional speech about how on her 25th birthday, she was diagnosed with cancer after a routine checkup. Facing a daunting treatment regimen, she found strength in her support system, particularly her husband and family. Despite the challenges, including chemotherapy and radiation, she maintained a positive outlook, finding humor and gratitude in her journey. The experience taught her the value of life and the importance of cherishing everyday moments. She emphasized the need for a support system and hope, encouraging others to appreciate life’s preciousness and resilience.
Table Topics Master Karen asked some fun imagination-related questions such as “Tell us about an imaginary place you escaped to as a child”.
Keep using your imagination at next week’s Halloween-themed meeting! I hear there will be costumes…
