For our meeting on June 5, the theme was World Environment Day.

VP of Membership Ramya led the new member induction, welcoming new members Monica and Pooja.

Kirti shared the leader profile of US Navy rear admiral Grace Hopper, who brought the COBOL programming language into popular use.

Ramona shared “The Art of Small Talk,” beginning with asking each of us, “How are you?”

We learned that small talk is not just to fill silence, it’s to foster a deep connection. 

Preetha’s speech, “Like, You Know, Right?” taught us about filler words and how to reduce our use of them. We did an illuminating exercise to find out how much we use filler words. This helped to identify our crutch words. Preetha led us on a Q&A to discuss the filler words and how to reduce them.

Pooja led us in our table topics by giving us the beginning of sentences about the environment and asking us to finish them – a unique approach!
